Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Checky Argent and Azure (Oriental Blue) a sun in its splendor Or charged with a demi-griffin couped Gules grasping in dexter claws a sword Gules. Attached below the shield is a black scroll doubled and inscribed "ILLUMINATE THE TRUTH" in gold.

Symbolism
Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally used by Military Intelligence. The checky field, symbolizing a chessboard, refers to the unique skills of strategy necessary for the success of the mission. The sunburst alludes to the motto, the mission effort to gain data and information to serve the best national interest. The demi-griffin, mythological symbol of intelligence and valor, denotes the ideals and goals of the unit. Scarlet indicates courage and sacrifice, gold signifies excellence. Black denotes strength and resolve.
